Abstract

Feathers are a major waste product of the poultry industry, and their incineration or disposal poses environmental problems. This paper analyzes the methods for extracting keratin from feathers, the potential of keratin-based biomaterials, and the environmental benefits. The mechanical, chemical, and biodegradation properties of chitosan-based composite keratin films are examined. The role of these biomaterials in reducing microplastic pollution, waste recycling, and sustainable development is also discussed.
