THE ORNITHOFAUNA OF SULTAN UVAYS MOUNTAIN AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

Abstract
This thesis examines the composition, ecological groups and conservation significance of the ornithofauna of Sulton Uvays Mountain and its surroundings, located in the southern part of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The aim of the study is to summarize the diversity of birds occurring in the area on the basis of modern ornithological observations and literature data. Route-transect, point-count, phenological observation and comparative analysis methods were used in the work. Recent observations show that 78 species belonging to 9 orders and 22 families occur in the territory, and that the proportion of seasonally migrating species is high. Representatives of Passeriformes and Falconiformes are particularly dominant; they are distributed in biotopes associated with mountain-desert landscapes, rocky slopes, saxaul and shrub thickets and the Amudarya valley. The thesis substantiates the need to strengthen the monitoring of rare species against the background of wind energy projects, pasture pressure and the transformation of habitats.
