THE MEDICINAL PROPERTIES, USE IN FOLK MEDICINE AND RESOURCES OF SHEPHERD'S PURSE (CAPSELLA BURSA-PASTORIS)

Abstract
The article presents data on the botanical description, chemical composition, seed germination capacity, raw material and use in folk medicine of the plant Capsella bursa-pastoris (L.) Medik. The seed is oval and flattened, 1–2.5 mm in length and 0.5–0.75 mm in width. Seed productivity is high: a single plant can produce up to 70 thousand seeds and, according to other sources, up to 40 thousand seeds. In folk medicine shepherd's purse has been used for uterine bleeding, cholecystitis, urolithiasis, rheumatism, gastritis, diarrhoea and dysentery, and as an astringent and wound-healing agent.
