THE CURRENT STATE OF MEDICINAL PLANTS IN THE REPUBLIC OF KARAKALPAKSTAN

Abstract
The article presents an analysis of medicinal plants under the conditions of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, where 360 species of medicinal plants grow and more than 37% of all plants are considered medicinal. General data on the resources of the medicinal flora are reviewed: 10–12 thousand species are known worldwide, more than 700 species occur in Uzbekistan, about 120 of which are used in scientific and folk medicine, while 40–47% of the medicines applied today are obtained from plant raw materials. The botanical, ecological and chemical characteristics of individual species widespread in the region are described — Salsola richteri Karel., Hyoscyamus niger L., Equisetum ramosissimum, Malacocarpus crithmifolius, Tamarix ramosissima Lebed., Erigeron canadensis L. and Alhagi pseudalhagi — including their content of alkaloids, tanning substances, flavonoids and essential oils and their use in folk medicine.
