BAMİYA (ABELMOSCHUS ESCULENTUS) plant ecological properties HÁM AWIL XOJLİGİNDAǴI importance
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article discusses the biological and ecological features of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus), its adaptation to hot and arid climatic conditions and its medicinal importance, as well as its role in ensuring food security and its possible industrial applications. It is shown that the plant maintains active photosynthesis even at +35–40 °C, while its deep root system allows the effective use of moisture from the lower soil layers, which makes the crop promising for water-scarce regions. The phytomeliorative properties of okra and its ability to absorb heavy metals and toxic substances from the soil are considered, as well as the effect of the mucilage, flavonoids and vitamins of its fruits on the digestive tract, on immunity and on the blood sugar level. Data are given on the fibre obtained from its stems for the paper and textile industries and on the 15–20% oil content of its seeds as a raw material for biodiesel.
