A DESCRIPTION OF MULBERRY VARIETIES DEVELOPED THROUGH FOLK SELECTION

Abstract

The further development of sericulture, one of the important branches of agriculture in Uzbekistan, requires the continuous strengthening of its fodder base. When the mulberry tree is planted in mixture with other trees, it forms a shelterbelt base and performs the function of protecting crops from the effects of hot dry winds and cold winds. The leaves of mulberry trees planted in this way can be partly used as feed for the silkworm, and seeds can be obtained from their fruits for the raising of seedlings. On the other hand, mulberry and other shelterbelt trees are of considerable importance in lowering the level of groundwater, improving the meliorative condition of the land, and counteracting salinization and waterlogging.
