ECOLOGICAL IMPORTANCE OF THE ISIRIQ PLANT AND COMBATING DESERTIFICATION
Main Article Content
Abstract
This master's dissertation analyses the ecological importance of Peganum harmala L. (harmal), a plant widespread in Central Asia, and its potential in combating desertification. The study examines the adaptability of harmal to saline soils, its capacity to stabilize soil and its role in supporting biological diversity. Its medicinal importance, its toxicity for livestock and the limitations associated with its psychoactive alkaloids are also discussed. On the basis of a review of the literature, the advantages and problems of integrating harmal into strategies for combating desertification are assessed. In conclusion, taking into account the ecological services and the economic potential of harmal, recommendations are given on its sustainable management and its careful use in ecological restoration projects.
