Abstract

The paper provides a comprehensive review of the healing properties of Momordica charantia and of its use in traditional medicine. The study analyses the biochemical composition of the plant, in particular the biologically active compounds, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants it contains. Scientific evidence confirming the therapeutic effect of Momordica in the treatment of diabetes, cancer, inflammatory diseases and viral infections is reviewed; its hypoglycaemic action is associated with charantin, polypeptide-p and other bioactive substances. The methods of applying the plant in folk medicine are described in detail, including the preparation and use of extracts, infusions and teas from its fruits and leaves for both internal and external treatment. The work contributes to a deeper understanding of the pharmacological potential of Momordica and creates a basis for its future application in medical practice.
