DANGEROUS PESTS OF THE MULBERRY TREE AND THE DAMAGE THEY CAUSE

Abstract
This paper examines the most dangerous pests that damage the mulberry tree, their biological characteristics, distribution and the economic damage they cause to mulberry plantations. Particular attention is paid to the timely detection of pests, the reduction of their numbers and the methods of protecting mulberry plantations. Since the mulberry is the main food base of the silkworm, the healthy growth of the tree is of great importance for the development of sericulture. Based on the analysis of literature sources, field observations and comparative analysis, it was established that the mulberry scale insect, the spider mite and leaf-eating caterpillars are the most widespread pests; the spread of the spider mite may reduce leaf yield by 15-25%. Timely agrotechnical measures, sanitary cleaning and biological protection methods can considerably reduce pest numbers.
