PROSPECTS FOR USING HONEYBEES AS POLLINATORS IN VERTICAL FARMING AND GREENHOUSE CONDITIONS
Main Article Content
Abstract
This dissertation critically analyses the prospects of vertical farming and of the use of bees as pollinators under greenhouse conditions in ensuring global food security and increasing agricultural productivity. The study considers the systemic problems of vertical farming, such as high capital and energy costs, as well as narrow specialization in leafy greens. The effectiveness and advantages of bumblebees in pollinating high-value crops such as tomato under greenhouse conditions are examined in detail. The influence of factors such as artificial lighting, the absence of UV radiation and controlled climatic conditions on the activity of bees in enclosed environments is also analysed.
