MORPHOMETRIC INDICATORS OF SEEDLINGS OF SESAME COLLECTION ACCESSIONS UNDER LABORATORY CONDITIONS
Main Article Content
Abstract
This work presents a comparative morphometric evaluation of collection accessions of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) at an early stage of development under laboratory conditions. The aim of the study was to examine the genotypic variability of the accessions in terms of total seedling length and hypocotyl length. The study was carried out by the method of laboratory germination of seeds on filter paper under an alternating temperature regime (30 °C for 6 hours and 20 °C for 18 hours) in darkness. The objects of the study were 12 sesame collection accessions of different geographical origin. Morphometric measurements were taken on the sixth day after the experiment was set up. It was established that the genotypes studied differed substantially in the intensity of early seedling growth. The highest values of total seedling length were shown by the accessions K216, K221, K161 and the control variety Tashkentskiy-122. The maximum hypocotyl lengths were recorded in the genotypes K221 and K1396. The results obtained indicate the presence of pronounced genotypic variability and make it possible to select promising accessions for further physiological and breeding research.
