Abstract
The article examines the role of Russian proverbs and sayings in the process of teaching the Russian language. The author analyses the significance of phraseological expressions in developing students' speech competence, forming their linguistic culture and expanding their vocabulary. Particular attention is paid to the methodological aspects of using proverbs and sayings in lessons and to their influence on the phonetic, grammatical and stylistic skills of learners. The work also emphasizes the intercultural aspect of phraseological units and their role in understanding folk wisdom and the features of the national worldview.
