LEXICAL-SEMANTIC AND PRAGMATIC FEATURES OF THE TRANSLATIONS OF JACK LONDON'S WORKS (BASED ON “MARTIN EDEN” AND “WHITE FANG”)

Abstract

This article analyses the lexical-semantic and pragmatic features of the Uzbek translations of Jack London's Martin Eden and White Fang. In particular, word choice, metaphorical expressions and the cultural adaptation of the text are studied separately. The problems of terms, anthropomorphisms and conceptual notions in the translation process, as well as the influence of the cultural context on the quality of translation, are analysed. The results of the study show that in order to preserve semantic accuracy it is necessary to use various translation strategies, including the methods of semantic compensation and pragmatic adaptation.
