Abstract

This article examines the main facets of Joyce Cary's work, in particular the principal themes of the novel The Pilgrim on the Journey and his attitude to the concepts of time and personality. Joyce Cary's novels reflect the distinctive traces of historical periods through the characters of their protagonists. The work analyses the complex relations between history and the individual, the distinctive aspects of Cary's realism, the harmony of epic and lyrical elements, and the universal expressions of historical events and personal quests.
