Abstract

This article provides a comparative analysis of Thomas Hardy's Tess of the d'Urbervilles and Iqbol Mirzo's Bonu, exploring the concepts of fate, morality and a woman's destiny. The works are examined in terms of women's place in society, their subordination to moral norms and their striving for independence. While Hardy criticises the hypocrisy of Victorian society, Mirzo depicts the modern Uzbek woman's aspiration towards freedom. The article studies the comparative aspects of these two works from the perspectives of feminist theory, cultural context and social differences.
