THE EXPRESSION OF POLITENESS IN THE WORKS OF UZBEK AND ENGLISH WRITERS: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS

Abstract

This article provides a comparative analysis of how politeness is expressed in the works of young Uzbek and English writers. The main attention is paid to how national tradition, culture and language factors influence the expression of politeness. The article cites examples from the works of young writers creating in Uzbek and in English and compares their ways of showing politeness. Through the analysis of polite expressions and their cultural implications, approaches that differ from one another yet at the same time resemble each other are revealed in both literary traditions. The conclusions show that English writers more often use indirectness and mitigation strategies, whereas Uzbek writers, in order to express politeness, more often use expressions conveying etiquette, respect and closeness.
