Abstract

This article examines the concept of the frame in the context of the literary analysis of a fictional text. The author draws on the frame theory of Ch. Fillmore, according to which groups of words and notions form a schematisation of experience and are structured into cognitive units. Particular attention is paid to the application of frame analysis in cognitive literary studies, to the identification of conceptual oppositions, to the transformation of character concepts and their verbalisation in a literary text. The importance of background knowledge and inference in the interpretation of works is emphasised. The article also considers the significance of analysing cognitive mechanisms in modelling the literary frame and its transformation into a universal code meaningful for world culture and literature.
