Abstract

This course paper examines the problem of using test assignments as a form of assessment in literature lessons in the senior grades. The study is aimed at determining the effectiveness of testing in the educational process and at identifying its influence on pupils' assimilation of knowledge, on the development of their analytical and critical thinking abilities and on the objectivity of knowledge assessment. Various types of test assignments, their advantages and shortcomings are analysed, and methodological recommendations for their use in educational practice are given. As a result of the study it was established that testing, as one of the means of pedagogical diagnostics, helps to develop pupils' independence and to form their literary competence. It is concluded that combining test-based assessment with other methods of knowledge evaluation is necessary in order to achieve the best educational results.
