Abstract

This article is devoted to the study of the influence of digital communication on the development of language structure and pragmatics. As a result of the wide spread of digital technologies, social networks and online communication platforms, noticeable changes are taking place in the language system. In particular, abbreviations, emojis, internet memes and multimodal means are adding new features to the semantic, syntactic and pragmatic aspects of language. The article analyses language norms in online communication, pragmatic strategies and context-dependent language adaptation. The results of the study clarify what changes digital communication is bringing about from the point of view of modern linguistics.
