Abstract

The article examines the possibility of producing composite cement with a reduced clinker content from local mineral raw materials of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. Khojakul kaolin clay was thermally activated at 800 °C to obtain metakaolin, and an iron-bearing technogenic material formed during the beneficiation of Tebinbulak titanomagnetite was used as a mineral component. The main mix consisted of 80% clinker, 12% thermally activated kaolin, 5% titanomagnetite technogenic material and 3% gypsum; the control mix contained 97% clinker and 3% gypsum. Specimens measuring 40×40×160 mm were tested after 3, 7, 14 and 28 days of curing. The 28-day compressive strength of the MKT-3 mix was 53.5 MPa, or 96.9% of that of the control mix, while the clinker proportion was reduced by 17 percentage points. The results showed that the combined use of thermally activated kaolin and the iron-bearing technogenic material makes it possible to maintain mechanical strength while reducing clinker consumption.
