Abstract

This article investigates the feasibility of obtaining transparent low-melting glasses based on the lead oxide–silicon dioxide system. Glass formation processes were studied using differential thermal analysis of batches of different compositions. As a result of the study, a composition of 80 percent lead oxide and 20 percent silicon dioxide was found to be optimal. The refractive index, density, coefficient of thermal expansion, softening temperature and chemical durability of the glasses obtained were determined. The possibility of adding up to 30 percent glass cullet to the batch was also substantiated.
