Abstract

The article dwells on some of the folklore forms in the comedy “Ójet” by Orazbay Abdirakhmanov, a playwright and major representative of twentieth-century Karakalpak literature. The aim of the work is to study the folklore forms in the play, to examine the writer’s skill in selecting folklore material and to look deeply into the artistic world of the work. The main feature of the comedy “Ójet” lies in its folk character. To show this, the author skilfully drew on proverbs and sayings, legends, tales, customs and traditions and other sources. In summary, the folklore forms in the play serve widely to depict its folk character, to present folklore forms as the rich heritage of the people, and to reveal the idea the playwright conveys through the work and the images of its characters.
