International experience in civic and legal education and the possibilities of applying it in general secondary schools

Abstract
This paper analyzes international trends in civic and legal education and the possibilities of applying it in Uzbekistan’s schools. The study focuses on the results of ICCS 2022, conducted by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement, and on the experience of Sweden, Poland, Denmark, Spain and Japan. The findings showed that in successful models civic education was not limited to imparting theoretical knowledge but was combined with students’ participation in school life and with practice. It also relied on “family–school–mahalla” cooperation. The paper ends with conclusions and recommendations for integrating civic and legal education into the content of various subjects.
