Symbolism and color semantics in national dress (the case of Karakalpak clothing)
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article analyzes symbolism and color semantics in national dress from a historical-ethnographic and semiotic perspective, taking the traditional clothing of the Karakalpak people as an example. The functions of dress in expressing social and age markers and in preserving ideas related to folk beliefs and nature are discussed. Traditional interpretations of white, red, blue, green, yellow and black, as well as the semantics of decorative elements (embroidery, ornament, jewelry), are considered. The role of women in passing clothing culture down from generation to generation is specifically highlighted.
