Breeding evaluation of Karakalpakstan melon gene pool accessions by ripening time
Main Article Content
Abstract
Studying the existing diversity in the melon gene pool of Karakalpakstan by maturity dates and identifying sources of early ripeness is of great importance in creating new breeding material suitable for regional conditions. In the study, a comparative assessment was conducted on 63 melon varieties and samples with fully formed phenological data. Based on the duration of the growing season, the samples were divided into groups of early, middle, and late-ripening. The vegetation period in the early-maturing group averaged 83.0 days, in the mid-maturing group 96.5 days, and in the late-maturing group 118.5 days. The shortest vegetation period was recorded in the white caterpillar sample — 74 days. Porsionnaya was characterized by a vegetation period of 78 days, Ak Navvot and Ola Borikalla by 79 days, and Kukcha by 80 days. It is advisable to involve these genotypes in further trials as valuable raw materials for early-maturing breeding.
