Effect of composts on winter wheat grain yield and soil fertility
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article reviews the effects of compost application on winter wheat grain yield and soil fertility based on scientific studies. Organic matter, macro- and micronutrients, humus-forming compounds and microorganisms contained in compost can improve the physical, chemical and biological properties of soil. Compost application increases soil organic carbon and nutrient availability, improves soil structure and water-holding capacity, and creates favorable conditions for root development. Scientific studies indicate that the combined application of compost and mineral fertilizers can positively affect winter wheat growth, number of grains per spike, thousand-grain weight and grain yield.
