Emotional intelligence of women journalists as a factor in social development within modern media
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this paper, we consider psychological resources manifested in the professional activity of women journalists, such as emotional intelligence and empathy, as a factor in the social development of the modern media system. Recent international studies show that the high emotional sensitivity and empathetic communication style of women journalists are not only an individual professional advantage but also a systemic resource that strengthens audience trust and encourages constructive discussion in society. We analyze this theoretical position in relation to the results of our earlier empirical study, in particular the emotionally evaluative writing style of women journalists and their preference for human-centered storytelling. Drawing on the Reuters Institute’s 2025 international study, we also show that the share of women journalists in media leadership has grown steadily over the last six years (from 23% in 2020 to 28% in 2025) and reflect on the prospects this trend may open up for the media environment of Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan. In our view, the scholarly recognition and development of the psychological and communicative potential of women journalists is one of the important ways of further strengthening the contribution of women scientists and creative women in our country to scientific and social development.
