Sh. Seytovtıń «Xalqabad» romanındaǵı metaforalardıń pragmatikalıq xızmeti

Abstract

The article analyzes the pragmatic features of metaphors used in Sh. Seytov’s novel “Xalqabad”. In a literary text, metaphor is viewed not only as a stylistic unit performing a figurative and aesthetic function, but also as a unit that conveys authorial evaluation and emotional attitude, characterizes images, transmits implicit meaning and exerts a pragmatic effect on the reader. The study employed contextual, semantic-pragmatic, functional-stylistic and componential methods of analysis. The functions of metaphors identified include characterizing the novel’s characters, expressing emotive-evaluative meaning, conveying implicit ideas, reflecting the national worldview and guiding the reader’s interpretation. The findings show that the writer uses metaphorical units in connection with the communicative purpose of the text. It is also demonstrated that metaphorical images occupy a special place in the lexico-pragmatic structure of the novel “Xalqabad”.
