Abstract

This paper analyzes the scientific activity and legacy of the scholars who contributed to the development of the natural sciences in Karakalpakstan. In particular, it examines the research of Ch. Abdirov, R. Tleuov, A. Bakhiev, J. Matmuratov and B. Allamuratov in microbiology, ichthyology, botany, geography, ecology and parasitology. The study of the natural conditions, water sources, flora and fauna, and environmental problems of the Lower Amu Darya and the Aral Sea region occupied an important place in their research. The results show that this scientific legacy is of great importance today for the study of the natural resources of the Aral Sea region, the conservation of biodiversity and the scientific investigation of environmental problems.
