Abstract

The article examines the formation and linguistic features of place names in the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The object of the study is the material collected in the “Dictionary of Toponyms of Karakalpakstan” by Q. Paxratdinov and G. Abishov. In the course of the study, toponyms derived from personal names, that is, anthropotoponyms, were classified as anthropooikonyms, anthropohydronyms and anthropooronyms. In addition, dromonyms and toponyms formed on the basis of nicknames were analyzed.
