Evaluating the effectiveness of intensive care methods for severe traumatic brain injury in children
Main Article Content
Abstract
This retrospective and prospective study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of intensive care for traumatic brain injury in 30 children aged 0–17 years treated in the Department of Resuscitation and Anesthesiology of the Karakalpakstan branch of the Republican Research Center of Emergency Medicine (RRCEM) in the first half of 2026, by age, injury severity and mechanism. The patients’ clinical condition was assessed using a scale; the intensive care regimen included neuromonitoring, infusion-transfusion therapy, cerebroprotectors, anti-edema measures and mechanical ventilation. Overall, of the 30 patients studied, a complete positive clinical outcome was achieved in 23 (76.7%), residual complications persisted in five (16.7%), and death occurred in two (6.6%). Timely and stepwise use of intensive care methods in children with severe traumatic brain injury helped significantly reduce overall mortality (6.6%). Treatment outcomes depended directly on injury severity (GCS score), and resuscitation measures had low effectiveness in the extremely severe group.
