Effect of cotton irrigation methods on seed cotton yield

Abstract
This article investigates the effectiveness of different irrigation methods for cotton varieties “S-4727” and “Sulton” under the meadow-alluvial soil conditions of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The study analyzes the effects of furrow irrigation and alternate-furrow irrigation with plastic film mulching between cotton rows on soil water permeability and seed cotton yield. Field experiments conducted during 2020–2022 showed that maintaining pre-irrigation soil moisture at 70–70–60% of field capacity and applying alternate-furrow irrigation with plastic film mulching provided effective results. The average seed cotton yield obtained using this method was 34.6 centners per hectare for the “S-4727” variety and 37.3 centners per hectare for the “Sulton” variety. These findings are of practical importance for improving water-use efficiency and optimizing cotton cultivation practices under the soil and climatic conditions of Karakalpakstan.
