Water-salt balance modelling for monitoring soil salinization and assessing its impact on crop yields
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article is devoted to testing the water-salt balance (WSB) method (a foreign approach) as applied to calculating the leaching fraction intended for leaching salts from the plant root zone during the growing season. The model was tested for mung bean grown as a second crop. The salt tolerance limits of the new mung bean variety “Barqaror” were adopted from experimental data obtained in Uzbekistan. The calculations showed that the WSB method makes it possible to determine with sufficient accuracy the volume of leaching water required for the effective removal of salts from the root zone, which helps to improve growing conditions and increase crop yield. The results confirm the practical applicability of the method for agrotechnical planning and irrigation management under salt loads.
