Abstract

Based on the scientific literature, this paper analyzes the bioecological characteristics of Lycium barbarum L. (goji), its adaptation to environmental stresses, the biologically active substances of its fruits and its medicinal value. Goji is a perennial shrub adapted to arid and semi-arid conditions; its fruits contain polysaccharides, carotenoids, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, organic acids and other biologically active substances. The literature reports the plant’s adaptation to drought and to a certain degree of salinity, as well as the antioxidant and other biological activity of its fruits.
