Abstract

The article examines the possibilities of using Oriental oleaster (Elaeagnus orientalis L.) forms to mitigate environmental problems caused by the drying up of the Aral Sea in the Muynak district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The agrotechnical foundations for creating protective plantations based on oleaster under conditions of a sharply continental climate, soil salinity, strong winds, wind erosion, and salt and dust storms are described. Special attention is paid to determining row spacing and seedling planting schemes, preparing the soil for planting, using local organic fertilizers, applying hydrogel, and implementing drip irrigation technologies. The proposed approaches are aimed at reducing wind erosion, reinforcing shifting sands, maintaining soil moisture, and improving the microclimatic conditions of the area. The prospects for creating additional economic opportunities for the local population through the use of oleaster fruits and flowers are also highlighted. The effectiveness of the proposals should be scientifically evaluated at experimental sites organized in the conditions of Muynak.
