Abstract

The article examines how the mass of internal organs and the morphophysiological indices of 90-day-old California rabbits depend on sexual dimorphism. The study was carried out on a farm in the Republic of Karakalpakstan on female and male rabbits (n=15 in each group) raised under identical feeding and housing conditions. After slaughter, the mass of the heart, liver, lungs, kidneys, spleen, stomach and intestines was determined, and the morphophysiological indices were calculated by the method of S.S. Shvarts. In females, the mass of the liver (82.78 and 74.37 g; P<0.01), kidneys (15.38 and 13.70 g; P<0.01), spleen (2.82 and 2.34 g; P<0.001), stomach (119.81 and 109.71 g; P<0.05) and intestines (429.37 and 391.18 g; P<0.05) was significantly higher than in males. No significant differences between the sexes were found in the mass of blood, heart and lungs (P>0.05). Females tended to have relatively higher indices of the digestive organs (intestines 15.20%, stomach 4.24%, liver 2.93%), while males tended to have higher indices of blood (3.24%), lungs (0.47%) and heart (0.25%). The results make it possible to take sex-specific physiological characteristics into account when evaluating the slaughter traits of rabbits.
