Abstract

This article covers the main directions of organizing and effectively conducting selection and breeding work in sheep farming. It analyses the importance of selection methods for improving the productive, breeding and breed qualities of sheep, as well as the selection and sorting of highly productive and genetically valuable animals. The role of assessing the origin, productivity indicators, progeny quality and reproductive capacity of sheep in breeding work is also shown. The possibilities of forming highly productive flocks through purposeful mating, efficient use of breeding rams and the application of modern selection methods are described. The article emphasizes that organizing selection and breeding work on a scientific basis is an important factor in increasing the productivity of sheep farming, improving product quality and ensuring the economic efficiency of the industry.
