Abstract
This article analyzes the process of the formation of speech therapy as an independent discipline, its scientific and practical foundations, and the stages of historical development. Speech therapy is a pedagogical discipline that studies speech disorders, develops methods for their prevention, diagnosis, and correction, and is closely related to the fields of psychology, medicine, and linguistics. The article highlights the scientific research that influenced the formation of the discipline, the contribution of the first speech therapy schools, and specialists.
