Abstract

This article reviews the main methods for the isolation and identification of phytopathogenic fungi belonging to the genus Colletotrichum from diseased apple (Malus domestica) samples. It also describes the initial methodological stages of the study aimed at isolating phytopathogenic fungi from apple samples showing disease symptoms, obtaining pure cultures, and subsequently identifying Colletotrichum isolates using morphological and molecular approaches. During the study, samples are collected from apple fruits exhibiting visible disease symptoms, followed by the isolation of pure fungal cultures under laboratory conditions. The growth characteristics of the isolated strains, colony colour and structure, mycelial characteristics, spores, conidia, and appressoria are examined using microscopic methods. In addition, fungi of the genus Colletotrichum are considered among the important and potentially destructive phytopathogens responsible for anthracnose diseases in plants. The results of this study may provide a scientific basis for identifying representatives of the genus Colletotrichum that cause apple diseases, studying their biological characteristics, and developing effective measures for disease control.
