Abstract

Insecticidal proteins of the Cry family, produced by Bacillus thuringiensis, play an important role in the biological control of agricultural pests. Previous studies have demonstrated the activity of certain Cry1Ia protein variants against the sugarcane giant borer, Telchin licus. This study aimed to design primers targeting amino acid substitutions previously described in the literature, based on the cry1Ia gene from B. thuringiensis strain Bt1Fo (GenBank accession number: PP897829), and to perform a preliminary assessment of PCR amplification results. Primers corresponding to the D233N, I116T, L266F, and E639G substitutions were selected, and PCR amplification was performed. Gel electrophoresis revealed prominent DNA bands in all four samples. These findings provide preliminary evidence of PCR product generation.
