Assessment of drought tolerance in wheat under in vitro conditions
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article highlights the effectiveness of using in vitro laboratory methods and tissue cultures for selecting wheat varieties resistant to drought stress. In this study, immature wheat embryos were used as explants, and the processes of embryogenic callus formation under the influence of 2,4-D on MS nutrient medium and its subsequent regeneration were evaluated. To simulate drought stress in the selective medium, PEG compounds (10%, 20%) and mannitol (10%) were used as osmotic agents. The results demonstrate the high efficiency of the cell and tissue culture method for rapidly assessing the resistance of genotypes to osmotic stress.
