Abstract

This study examined the effect of epigenetic modifiers on the induction of biosynthetic pathways of secondary metabolites in the endophytic fungi Aspergillus sydowii AV5L and Penicillium verrucosum AV6L. Sodium valproate, 5-Azacitidine and quercetin were used as modifiers. Treatment of the endophytic fungi with these modifiers resulted in increased biomass yield, changes in culture color and the synthesis of new metabolites with moderate anti-urease activity. The observed changes depended on the concentration of modifiers and on the strain.
