Anticoagulant activity of endophytic fungi isolated from saffron (Crocus sativus L.)
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study evaluated the anticoagulant activity of secondary metabolites produced by endophytic fungi isolated from Crocus sativus L. (saffron). Extracts of 17 fungal strains were tested using the plasma recalcification time (PRT) assay. The results revealed differences in the activity of the tested samples. The most pronounced effect was observed in the Penicillium sp. CS50R isolate, for which the PRT exceeded 120 minutes. This isolate represents a promising source of biologically active compounds with potential anticoagulant properties. The findings provide a basis for further investigation of the anticoagulant activity of saffron-associated endophytic fungi and the identification of active metabolites.
