Effect of synbiotic therapy on lipid metabolism biomarkers in experimental obesity
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study evaluated the effects of a synbiotic formulation containing indigenous lactic acid bacterial strains and inulin on body weight, lipid metabolism biomarkers, and enteroendocrine hormone levels in a high-fat diet (HFD)-induced experimental model of obesity. The experiment was conducted on 36 laboratory rats randomly assigned to six groups. The synbiotic formulation was administered for 30 days. The results demonstrated that synbiotic supplementation was associated with reductions in body weight, liver weight, and adipose tissue mass compared with the untreated HFD group. Furthermore, serum triglyceride and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels decreased, while high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels increased. Elevated levels of the enteroendocrine hormones GLP-1, GLP-2, and PYY were also observed. These findings suggest that a synbiotic formulation comprising indigenous probiotic strains and inulin may improve lipid metabolism and modulate metabolic disturbances associated with diet-induced obesity.
