Abstract

This study investigated the biological diversity and cultural and morphological characteristics of selected microorganisms occurring in soils of the dried bed of the Aral Sea. Serial dilution and cultivation on different nutrient media were used to isolate the microorganisms. Yellow, green, and cream-colored colonies were observed during the study. Differences in colony pigmentation and appearance indicated cultural diversity among the microorganisms recovered from the investigated samples. The findings provide a basis for further characterization of microorganisms inhabiting the soils of the dried Aral Sea bed and for investigating their adaptation to extreme environmental conditions.
