Biodegradation of Shargun coal mine waste using local Bacillus strains
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper examines the capacity of Bacillus cabrialesii SH16 and Bacillus subtilis SH29, isolated from Shargun coal mine waste, to degrade the organic fraction of coal, assessed through gravimetric, FTIR, and UV–Vis analyses. The most pronounced effect was shown by B. subtilis SH29, with a net mass loss of 3.01%, while its FTIR spectrum revealed new bands attributable to carbonyl groups. Similar spectral shifts were detected in soil treated with the consortium under field conditions. These findings point to the practical relevance of local strains for coal-waste bioremediation.
