Cytotoxic properties of bioactive metabolites obtained from soil bacteria
Main Article Content
Abstract
Bacterial isolates were obtained from soil in the Kashkadarya Region of the Republic of Uzbekistan and identified based on analysis of the 16S rRNA gene nucleotide sequences. More than 30 isolates were recovered during the study. Four strains were selected based on their antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties: Bacillus atrophaeus AD80, Priestia endophytica AD81, Paenibacillus lautus AD83, and Peribacillus frigoritolerans AD90. The cytotoxic activity of crude extracts from the selected strains was evaluated against human breast adenocarcinoma MCF-7 cells and human cervical cancer HeLa cells using the CCK-8 assay. The B. atrophaeus AD80 extract exhibited the highest cytotoxic activity, with IC₅₀ values of 174.4 µg/mL against MCF-7 cells and 151.0 µg/mL against HeLa cells. The P. endophytica AD81 extract showed weaker activity against MCF-7 cells, with an IC₅₀ value of 765.8 µg/mL. The extracts of P. lautus AD83 and P. frigoritolerans AD90 did not reduce cell viability by 50% at concentrations of up to 1,000 µg/mL. These findings indicate that B. atrophaeus AD80 is a promising source of bioactive secondary metabolites for further investigation.
