Pathogenetic aspects of the onset of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy
Main Article Content
Abstract
Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is a second- and third-trimester disorder of bile acid homeostasis hazardous to both mother and fetus. Archival material from 51 women who died of ICP complications between 2013 and 2023 and from 12 controls was examined morphologically, morphometrically and immunohistochemically. Congestive pancreatitis and steatonecrosis predominated in the pancreas. The findings implicate the deconjugating activity of the gut microbiota in ICP pathogenesis.
