Abstract

This study is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of translation as an act of
intercultural communication, located at the intersection of linguistics and cultural studies. It is determined that the success of translation depends not only on achieving linguistic
equivalence but also on pragmatic adequacy, which requires consideration of the cultural norms and
values of the target language audience. The paper systematizes the main intercultural
barriers (conceptual, pragmatic, and discursive) and proposes an integrative model
of translation. The role of the translator as a cultural mediator is substantiated and a typology of culturally determined transformations (explication, functional
substitution) is developed, the use of which helps minimize communicative losses. The results
of the study contribute to the development of theoretical translation studies and have practical
significance for enhancing the intercultural competence of translators.
