Abstract

The article analyzes the pedagogical foundations of the formation of intercultural communication competence in the process of learning English. Based on the concepts of Byram, Deardorff and Kramsch, the cognitive, affective, sociolinguistic and strategic components of the competence are explained. The use of communicative, sociocognitive and situational approaches and principles of intercultural education in an integrative model is shown. The practical effectiveness of such tools as authentic materials, projects and role-playing games, comparative exercises and telecooperation is highlighted. The role of the teacher as an “intercultural mediator” and the criteria for reflexive assessment are described. As a result, the conditions for educating a tolerant and flexible person ready for global communication are established.
